The Mason Dixon Line A Horizons Novel edition by Linda Morris Contemporary Romance eBooks

Carolyn Hart's life is one gigantic mess. She's never been able to figure out what she truly wants to do in life. She's flitted from one potential career to another, with her affluent father footing the bill -- until now. Carolyn is a shopaholic, constantly putting herself in credit card hell from impulse buying on the Home Shopping Channel. She can't bear to run to her father for yet another bailout, but on a teacher's aide salary, what other option does she have? Her boss has the perfect answer: Carolyn will write a children's book as a fundraiser for the school. It seems like a quick way to earn some needed cash, but Carolyn's unfiltered remarks put her on the short end of the negotiating stick simply to keep her job.
Enter Mason Dixon, an eccentric cartoonist/artist with a bristly attitude. He's been drafted as illustrator for the children's book Carolyn is expected to write. It's a favor to pay back his aunt, who is one of the school's benefactors. Mason has no use for elementary school teachers with no creative passion, and that's exactly how he pegs Carolyn at their first meeting.
Carolyn is caught in the middle. She can't afford to turn down this little job, but she also takes an instant dislike to moody, broody Mason. They have what's left of the summer to write and illustrate this book, so the two end up sharing a small cabin out in the middle of nowhere to get this thing done. Somewhere along the way, some major chemistry begins to build.
The relationship between these two is a series of stumbles and saves as each tries to make sense of their situation and lives, before their time together runs out. Prejudices and preconceptions are shattered along the way, until Carolyn's penchant for spending more than she makes ensnares Mason. Will it be enough of a wake-up call for her to recognize she has a serious problem and needs help? And will Mason drop out of her life forever because of what she's done to him?
Carolyn and Mason are great characters. They have a lot hiding inside their skins. I wish the book had been longer, to reveal more about them, to play up Carolyn's addiction and Mason's "disabilities" more.

Carolyn Hart gets a wake up call in the Mason Dixon Line by Linda Morris. Carolyn has always made a point to look good and impress others but looks won’t get her through life. Carolyn’s funds are running low and with no suitors in sight, she must go back to the drawing board. This means Carolyn must take a new assignment from her boss, which Carolyn does not want to do. When her boss assigns her to write a children’s book for a fundraiser, Carolyn does not feel up to it. Carolyn then finds out that she is partnered with a cartoonist to get the job done. Carolyn knows she has to do a great job on this project but will she be able to survive working with a cartoonist?

Mason Dixon has had his fair share of trouble. So, when his aunt asks him to work on a book for her fundraiser, Mason agrees because he wants to help his aunt. This will also keep Mason out of trouble. When Mason meets Carolyn to start work on the project, Mason realizes that he has bitten off more than he can chew. Will Mason survive this business relationship?

The Mason Dixon Line is a contemporary novel with characters readers can relate to. I liked the development of Mason and Carolyn’s characters even though Carolyn seemed over the top. I enjoyed the story but lost track at times because of drifting in the story line. I do recommend The Mason Dixon Line to others.

The Mason Dixon Line is a contemporary romance that features a hero and heroine who, on the surface, may not seem very likeable, but are actually quite heroic in an understated way. Mason Dixon is an artist with a surly attitude to match the chip on his shoulder. Carolyn Hart is a princess who comes from money and doesn't have a clue in life. In this story, what's below that surface is what matters. Carolyn and Mason are thrown together when they are assigned to create a children's picture book to be sold as a fund raiser at the special needs school where Carolyn works as a teacher's aide. As this impressively layered story unfolds, we come to learn Mason's attitude is the product of a set of parents and a school system that gave up on him due to his learning disability. When shown some respect and compassion by Carolyn, Mason returns it, and then some. Carolyn's a product of a challenging environment in its own right. She wants to make a real contribution to the world, but she simply doesn't know how.

As Mason and Carolyn work together on the book, they learn when they're willing to look below the surface, they can find friendship, trust and even love in someone who "appears" to be very different. A bonus to the romance of this tale is the honest and loving look at people with special needs. And, as is always the case with a Linda Morris story, there's just the right touch of wit to provide a life when things get a little heavy. If you enjoy romance with true to life characters, important messages, and enough artful heat to keep you warm these frigid winter nights, The Mason Dixon Line is a must-read!
When looking for reading material, I'm always drawn to stories with someone with special needs... This is one of them. It's a cute story with lots of heart!! Read it.. It will put a smile on your face!
This story makes no sense whatsoever. The characters do things to move the story along instead of acting like real people. Of course the guy acts like a hero and beats up the bad guy. Of course the girl realizes everything that is wrong with her life and changes and tells her family off and thinks it's the truth and never seems to realize that it is just a continuation of what she's always done. Everything is tied up too easily. Also going to his cabin was so out of character and when she found that there was only one bed she should have demanded he take her back home. No realism here.
